In 1989 Newton Ladies were formed and won the Lancashire International Tournament as well as reaching the Division One & Two Final. The year after they’re again defeated finalists but won the Red Star Tournament in Southampton.

They entered the first National League in 1991 under the name of Knowsley Women’s Football Club, finishing 4th and winning the Lancashire International Tournament again.

Strengthened by England internationals they reached the League Cup Final in 1993 but lost to Arsenal.

They also lost the 1994 Women’s FA Cup Final, 1-0 to Doncaster Belles, before finishing third in the league.

In 1995 they become Liverpool FC Ladies and again reach the Women’s FA Cup Final, narrowly losing out to Arsenal in a five goal thriller. They finished runners up in the league, before again losing the Women’s FA Cup Final the following season, this time to Croydon on penalties.

After discussions at Anfield in the summer of 1999, a scheme including Liverpool Fed Juniors is developed to help with youth development.

In 2001 Liverpool Ladies were relegated from the Women’s Premier League. In 2002, the Northern Division One side secure their first shirt sponsorship deal with Manchester based BEP Screen Print.

In 2004 they won the Northern Division and earned promotion, but did not stay long as they were relegated again at the end of the season, having won only two games.

Liverpool again won back promotion in the 2006–07 season as they ran out Northern Division champions.

The Reds survived their first season back in the FA Women's Premier League National Division, finishing third bottom only to get relegated into the Northern Division for 2009–10.

The following year Liverpool won the Northern Division losing just one game all season as well as winning the FA Fair Play Award after playing for the whole season without having a single player booked or sent-off.

Liverpool Ladies are a founder member of the FA Women’s Super League which began in April 2011.

In 2013 Liverpool ladies became fully integrated into Liverpool Football Club.

Liverpool Ladies won the league title for the first time in the club’s history in 2013 when they were crowned WSL champions following a 2-0 victory over Bristol Academy.

Following a dramatic final day of the 2014 WSL season, the Reds managed to retain their title after beating Bristol Academy 3-0 with both Chelsea and Birmingham City failing to win as Matt Beard's side jumped from third to first.

Liverpool Ladies also run a reserve side in the Premier League Reserve Mid/North Division One and a Centre of Excellence which has U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17 teams.
