Launched ahead of the Spring Series, Liverpool Ladies Sister Club programme has reached a fantastic milestone, welcoming its 10th club, Upton Junior FC.

Launched ahead of the Spring Series, Liverpool Ladies Sister Club programme has reached a fantastic milestone, welcoming its 10th club, Upton Junior FC.

Based in Chester, Upton JFC, has been working hard to provide football for all in their community, doubling in size over the last five years and being awarded the Cheshire FA Charter Standard Community Club of the Year award in 2017.

The club’s commitment to their girl’s section has seen it grow to over 50 players since the first girls only training was launched in 2016. Upton currently has opportunities for girl’s from U7-U15 and the club also has a very successful ‘Footy4Females’ team which trains weekly and welcomes ladies of all abilities from 16-60.

Upton JFC has clear goals for growing the girls section, including supporting more coaches to gain their Level 1 coaching qualification and adding an U15’s team for next season. As the Sister Club programme includes coaching support, fundraising opportunities and inspiration through player visits and match tickets, LLFC is able to offer support for these plans.

Sue Terry, Girls Co-ordinator at Upton JFC, commented ‘This is such an exciting opportunity for us as a club, not just for the girls; it will be fantastic for the players to see first-hand what is possible in women’s football with hard work and commitment. We are confident this programme will be inspiring for all our coaches and players.’

Paul Metheringham, Liverpool Ladies General Manager, said: ‘Club number ten joining our Sister Club programme is a real milestone and we’re delighted to be able to share it with Upton JFC, who have shown their dedication to the growth of women and girls football. Since the programme launched we’ve really enjoyed welcoming our Sister Clubs to matches and special events, as well as going out to visit them and celebrating their clubs with their players and we’re looking forward to Upton joining this family.’

The Sister Club programme offers clubs an exciting programme of activities, including a tournament and camp, free tickets to our WSL1 games, player visits and other exclusive opportunities. For more information about the programme and how to join please contact Ianthe.mumford@liverpoolfc.com.
